The Best Pre-Ski Breakfast Restaurants in South Lake Tahoe

The pre-ski/snowboard meal can never be underestimated. There is nothing better than starting the day off with a solid, quality meal (maybe with a quick caffeine pick me up). Don’t skimp on the part of your morning that will provide you with the energy you need to last until lunch. The following are our favorite breakfast restaurants that serve a quick, hardy meal that is perfect for starting off your day on the mountain.

#1 Thai One On

This restaurant is a little off the beaten path in comparison to the bigger restaurants in town, and it’s name might throw you off. You might ask, do they serve a Thai-style breakfast? Not quite. They do serve Thai food for lunch and dinner, but in the morning they serve a killer breakfast burrito that has decent portions at a good price (they have other breakfast items too, obviously). It’s not located walking distance to the main strip, but it only requires a quick drive up Kingsbury grade. However, you will be rewarded for this side trip with a lesser wait-time that could help you make it to the mountain in time to get the first chair.

Our favorite item on the menu: The breakfast burrito is hands down the favorite. Good portions and enough eggs to keep the energy going for long enough.

#2 Red Hut Cafe

Sometimes the perfect pre-ski meal is a simple, freshly cooked omelet. If you agree, then go no further than the Red Hut Cafe. We prefer the one on Kingsbury Grade in Nevada for the same reasons listed above regarding Thai One On (convenience and speed). Of course, omelets are not the only meal they serve. The menu here is one of a quintessential diner, delivered in big portions and with quality fresh materials (you can get the greasy food if you want it too). If you are not a fan of omelets, their waffles and french toast are very good, although all of those carbohydrates aren’t going to last too long on the slopes. All around, this a great spot to get a hardy meal that will taste good, be delivered fast, and provide lasting energy for a strenuous day on the mountain.

Our favorite item on the menu: The Western Omelet with Avocado beats anything else on the menu, and has enough protein and carbohydrates to get you through even the toughest morning of powder skiing/snowboarding.
